October Newsletter

Keep up to date on the latest CQA news.

CQA Updates:

After a successful September event we're moving right into our newest initiative - a joint project with the SQA. We'll be co-sponsoring two seminars with the SQA, one in November and one in May. All CQA and SQA members are invited to tune in for these virtual seminars. We wanted to start things off on a high note and we're happy to announce that Cam Harvey has accepted our invitation to be the first speaker.
Please see the info below on the CQA Challenge. If you have any recommendations of schools to participate, please let Kai know as soon as possible. The Challenge begins on October 31. Not all of the presentations from September are available for download, but those that are can be found on the CQA website using the link below. We're trying to get as much participation in this newsletter as possible and we've included a few links that our members might find interesting. We continue to invite members to make submissions of interesting content they think will be of interest to the CQA membership.

CQA Investment Challenge

Do you know of some current students (either undergrad or grad) who are interested in the 2022-2023 CQA Investment Challenge competition?

The competition runs from October 31st to March 31st. Each school can register up to 3 teams with 5 students per team. There are 3 rounds. The first round is based completely on compliance. The second round (top 20 portfolios) is based on compliance and returns. The final round (top 10 portfolios) is based on compliance, returns, and a video that the team needs to create.  A mentor/teacher is not required for each team, but it’s useful to have a mentor/teacher so that we can reach the school next year and inform them of the competition.

First place gets $3,000, second place gets $2,000, and third place gets $1,000.

Reuters Interview
Recently CQA member Satya Pradhuman was interviewed by Reuters. In this interview Satya addresses the divergent relationship between technology and industrial spending, as capital budgeting always involves a rationing within a firm; to accelerate spending on one channel limits the ability to consume in other segments. The forces described underway are tectonic shifts coming together, forcing a ramp-up of a new industrial phase.
